The new reforms impose a positive duty upon "officers" of companies (which includes directors) to exercise due diligence to ensure compliance with OHS laws. The penalties for breaching OHS laws will also be increased significantly.

You're Fired! How to Correctly Dismiss Employees
A free online webinar explaining Australia's unfair dismissal laws for:
*team managers
*Workforce Guardian users
*everyone considering subscribing
It doesn't matter whether you have two employees or a staff of two
hundred - your employees will be entitled to significant
compensation if their dismissal is found to be unfair by Fair Work
Australia.
Any termination that is not face to face, or at the very least, does not give the employee the ability to respond to the reasons for a termination will breach the law. Clearly, using text messaging to dismiss an employee fails to comply with the Fair Work Act and the National Employment Standards.
This dedicated 1 hour webinar will explain the rules you need to
know in clear and simple English and will ensure you're able to use
your Workforce Guardian subscription to meet all your
dismissal-related legal obligations.
Specific topics which will we will cover include:
• The definition of 'small business' from 1 January 2011.
• Understanding the difference between unfair dismissals, unlawful
dismissals and genuine redundancies
• How to reduce the chances of an unfair dismissal claim being
lodged against you
• Why using text messaging to dismiss an employee fails to
comply with the Fair Work Act 2009 and the National Employment
Standards.
• Using the 'Managing' section of the service to correctly dismiss
an employee
• How to access the 'Small Business Fair Dismissal Code' using
your subscription
• How you can use the policies and procedures section to your full
advantage
• How Workforce Guardian assist you with your unfair dismissal
inquiries
You'll also have the opportunity to ask your own questions during
the demonstration.

A Simple Guide to the NES
The Fair Work Act 2009 introduced the new National Employment Standards (NES) which consist of 10 minimum entitlements that all Businesses in all States must now provide their employees. For many businesses - even with access to dedicated HR resources - this legislation can be complex and challenging to understand and implement. Yet employers are held legally responsible for its correct implementation in the workplace. Without sufficient knowledge or expertise, your business could be exposed to unnecessary administrative complications and increased risks.
This session will cover everything you need to know about the NES:
- A detailed explanation of all 10 Standards
- Understanding how these new Standards interact with the new Modern Awards system
- How to implement the Standards in your business
- How to create employment contracts which are fully compliant with the Standards using your subscription
